Furano: price, Ikon days, access and how it compares with Niseko

A $58 (¥9,000) day ticket on Ikon, about a third under Niseko's peak. Costs, Ikon days and the way in from New Chitose and Asahikawa.

Furano is the cheaper of Hokkaido’s two Ikon resorts: an adult day is $58 (¥9,000) in the regular period, about a third under Niseko’s $87 (¥13,500) peak day, and the Ikon page lists 7 days on the full pass and 5 on Base. It suits Ikon holders and beginner-to-intermediate skiers. From Tokyo you fly to New Chitose (about 1.5 hours), then take 2 to 3 hours by bus or rail.

Dollar figures use about ¥155 to US$1 and are rounded; you pay in yen, so check the rate.

Is Furano right for you?

Good for

  • Ikon holders, with 7 days on the full pass and 5 on Base.
  • A lower Hokkaido bill: $58 (¥9,000) is 29% under Niseko’s regular $81 (¥12,600) and 33% under its peak.
  • Beginners and intermediates: one database says guides rate it beginner to intermediate friendly.

Not for

  • Anyone who wants published gate rules: none were found.
  • Anyone who needs English service confirmed: the resort and the tourism association both run English sites, but no source says how much English staff speak.
  • Anyone who wants firm terrain numbers: see the table below.

Furano or Niseko?

Both are on Ikon at 7 days. Furano costs less, and Niseko publishes more.

Furano has two zones, Furano and Kitanomine, joined by a gondola and ropeway. Sources give 23 to 29 courses and 10 or 11 lifts, and a longest run of 1.8 km or about 4 km, so this page quotes no single figure. A database lists a typical peak base of 229 cm; no sourced yearly snowfall was found. See Niseko for the other side of the table.

How do you get from Tokyo to Furano?

Fly Haneda or Narita to New Chitose (about 1.5 hours). From the airport, a route database lists the Hokkaido Resort Liner at about 120 minutes and $39 (¥6,000), last checked for an earlier season; the 2026-27 fare is unclear right now. One rail guide puts the trip via Sapporo at about 2.5 to 3 hours. From Sapporo, the Kosoku-Furano bus takes about 160 minutes and costs $17 (¥2,700).

Tokyo to Furano is 3.5 to 4.5 hours moving, before airport time. From Asahikawa Airport, one database gives 120 minutes and $6 (¥900), while a ski guide says about 70 to 80 minutes; the two conflict. More routes: Tokyo to ski resorts.

What does a Furano day cost in 2026-27?

Adult prices from the operator’s lift ticket page. Spring hours are 9:00 to 16:00, other dates 8:30 to sunset.

The season, 28 Nov 2026 to 5 May 2027, is tentative and depends on snow and lifts. Night skiing opens in the Furano Zone from mid-December and in Kitanomine from late December, both to 21 Mar 2027. It costs $20 (¥3,100) on weekdays, 16:00 to 18:00, and $25 (¥3,900) on weekends, holidays and 26 Dec to 3 Jan, 16:00 to 19:30.

Last season’s regular price was $52 (¥8,000), and a database, a roundup and a guide still show it. The 2026-27 price is $6 (¥1,000) higher, up 12.5%. A database lists part-day and point tickets only at last season’s prices, so none are given here, and no 2026-27 multi-day prices are published on the pages covered. Where sources say $52 (¥8,000) and the resort says $58 (¥9,000), this page uses the resort’s price.

Does Ikon work at Furano?

Yes, with a cap: 7 days on the full pass and 5 on Base, per the Ikon destinations page. The Session Pass row is not covered. Last known (2025-26): the only Japan blackout found was at Niseko, not Furano, and one guide says Furano has no resort-specific blackout. The 2026-27 terms are unclear right now. Epic does not list Furano, and Mountain Collective lists Niseko United as its only Japan resort. Tables: Ikon and Epic in Japan and Passes & prices.

Riding a board?

  • The Furano Snow School lists English snowboard lessons: group for ages 6 to 12 and for 13 and over, and private. The page gives no prices.
  • A lift catalogue lists 7 chairs, 1 gondola, 1 ropeway and 2 magic carpets, with no T-bar.
  • An older rider guide calls the park weak, and no current park page was found.

What do the rules say about leaving the piste?

No gate, backcountry or tree-run rules were found for Furano, which is not the same as off-piste being allowed. One older rider guide says off-piste is “not really allowed” there, a guide’s summary, not a published rule. Ask the resort whether it has a gate, which areas are closed and who pays for a rescue, then read Backcountry & safety and Can I ski off-piste in Japan without a guide?

Is the 2026-27 snow looking good?

The 2026-27 outlook leans warm. The Japan Meteorological Agency’s September outlook (unconfirmed figures) gives Hokkaido’s Sea of Japan side a 40% chance of below-normal snowfall, 40% near normal and 20% above. The reports do not say which zone covers Furano. Odds and months: Snow odds.

What is there to do off the slopes?

Local food is the sourced draw: the tourism association’s English site names onions and the Furano cheese factory, with no restaurant list, prices or hours. No source names a Furano onsen, so none is listed here. Ask your lodging whether it has a bath before you count on a soak.
