Japan ski lift pass prices 2026-27: what you'll actually pay
Adult day tickets for 11 resorts side by side, how little multi-day passes save, what Ikon and Epic cover in Japan, and which early-bird deadlines are close.
A regular-season adult day ticket in Japan costs $50 to $110 (¥7,800 to ¥16,700) in 2026-27. Nozawa is the cheap end at $50 (¥7,800), Rusutsu the top at $110 (¥16,700) at the window, and Niseko sits at $87 (¥13,500) in peak weeks. Ikon and Epic cover only some of these resorts, with day caps. Prices change by pricing period, so check the official page before you go.
Dollar figures use about ¥155 to US$1 and are rounded; you pay in yen, so check the rate.
What does a day ticket cost at each resort?
Nozawa is cheapest at $50 (¥7,800) and Rusutsu the dearest at $110 (¥16,700) at the window. Prices are adult one-day for the regular 2026-27 season, from each resort’s own page unless marked.
| Resort | Adult 1-day | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Niseko United | $87 (¥13,500) peak (24 Dec-28 Feb); $81 (¥12,600) regular; $57 (¥8,800) early and spring | All four mountains |
| Hakuba Valley | $72 (¥11,100) | 10 resorts on one ticket |
| Rusutsu | $110 (¥16,700) window, $85 (¥13,200) online (19 Dec-14 Mar) | Early and spring dates cost less |
| Kiroro | $59 (¥9,200) (12 Dec-11 Apr) | $37 (¥5,800) early and spring; page header unclear on season |
| Furano | $58 (¥9,000) (5 Dec-22 Mar) | $48 (¥7,500) early and spring |
| Shiga Kogen | $61 (¥9,500) | Covers all 18 areas |
| Madarao | $58 (¥9,000) | Madarao and Tangram, no night |
| Myoko Suginohara | $58 (¥9,000) | Opens 19 Dec 2026 |
| Naeba | $63 (¥9,800) | Naeba area only |
| Zao Onsen | $52 (¥8,000) regular; $58 (¥9,000) peak; $45 (¥7,000) spring | Database figures; see below |
| Nozawa Onsen | $50 (¥7,800) (19 Dec-28 Mar) | Child $30 (¥4,700), senior $41 (¥6,300) |
Rusutsu’s window price is about 2.1 times Zao’s regular day, and older price lists show Rusutsu far lower.
To verify Zao. The $52 (¥8,000) regular, $58 (¥9,000) peak and $45 (¥7,000) spring prices come from a price database that cites the resort page, and a seller’s page agrees. Zao’s own 2026-27 page was unavailable, so treat them as likely, not final. Zao’s season dates are unconfirmed; one reseller shows tickets valid 19 Dec 2026 to 31 Mar 2027. The Zao Ropeway is separate: $28 (¥4,400) adult round trip, $14 (¥2,200) one way. Check the Zao Onsen Ski Resort price page before you go.
Niseko: how much do the pricing seasons matter?
A lot. An early or spring day at $57 (¥8,800) costs about 35% less than a peak day at $87 (¥13,500).
- Early: 28 Nov to 11 Dec 2026, early and spring rate.
- Regular: 12 to 23 Dec and 1 to 22 Mar, $81 (¥12,600).
- Peak: 24 Dec to 28 Feb, $87 (¥13,500).
- Spring: 23 Mar to 4 Apr, early and spring rate. A final period runs 5 Apr to 5 May.
Multi-day adult prices at peak: 2 days $170 (¥26,500), 3 days $255 (¥39,500), 5 days $425 (¥65,500), 7 days $590 (¥91,500). Children aged 4 to 12 pay $52 (¥8,100) for a peak day, and ages 13 to 15 and 65 and over $74 (¥11,500). The 12-point ticket is $48 (¥7,500) in every season, but it counts points, not days.
Hakuba Valley: is the valley pass good value?
Yes, if you ski several resorts and want flexibility. One day is $72 (¥11,100), 5 days $345 (¥53,400) and 10 days $685 (¥106,100), and the days need not be consecutive. The 5-day pass must be used inside a 10-day window, and unused days are void with no refund. A free shuttle runs on ski days.
How do five days compare?
Shiga Kogen is cheapest for five days at $295 (¥45,500), then Hakuba Valley, then Niseko at peak.
| Five adult days | Price | Day rule |
|---|---|---|
| Shiga Kogen | $295 (¥45,500) | Days need not be consecutive |
| Hakuba Valley | $345 (¥53,400) | Any 5 days inside a 10-day window |
| Niseko, peak | $425 (¥65,500) | Not stated on the official page |
Shiga Kogen is about 31% below Niseko peak for the same five days.
How much do multi-day passes really save?
Not much. Niseko’s 7-day peak pass averages $84 (¥13,071) a day against $87 (¥13,500) for a single day, about 3%. Hakuba’s 10-day pass is $68 (¥10,610) a day against $72 (¥11,100), about 4%. Buy multi-day passes for convenience and the non-consecutive window, not for a discount.
What do Ikon and Epic cover in Japan?
Ikon covers about ten Japanese areas and Epic two destinations, each with day caps.
- Ikon: about ten Japanese areas, usually 7 days on the full pass and 5 on Base. Session Pass gets no access in most; Niseko United is the exception (2 to 4 days). Zao, Arai, Nekoma, Mt.T, Appi, Madarao, Myoko Suginohara, Shiga Kogen and Furano are all listed on the Ikon page. For Shiga Kogen, days are shared across the 18 areas per a guide, so confirm individual areas before you spend a pass day.
- Epic: one free 5-consecutive-day ticket valid across all Hakuba Valley resorts, plus a separate 5 consecutive days at Rusutsu. You need a physical card as well as the mobile pass, plus photo ID. Night skiing is excluded in Hakuba, and Epic lodging and dining discounts do not apply there. Epic Day Passes, Mountain Rewards and Bring-A-Mate are not valid in Japan. Call Vail Guest Services before you arrive. Rusutsu blackout dates conflict: the Epic page lists none, one trade report lists several.
- Neither: Nozawa Onsen, Kiroro, Naeba and Kagura are on no pass.
To verify Read the 2026-27 Ikon price on the Ikon Pass site before you buy, then divide it by the day prices above to find your break-even.
Which season-pass early-bird deadlines are close?
Three resorts close their early-bird season-pass prices between 31 Oct and 13 Dec 2026, so some may already be over: check whether each is still on sale.
| Resort | Early-bird adult season pass | Regular price | Early-bird ends |
|---|---|---|---|
| Madarao | $440 (¥68,000) | $495 (¥77,000) | 31 Oct 2026 |
| Appi Kogen | Three tiers, $255 to $580 (¥39,900 to ¥89,900) | $710 (¥110,000) | Last tier 30 Nov 2026 |
| Kiroro | $465 (¥72,000) | $665 (¥103,000) from 14 Dec | 13 Dec 2026 |
The Appi source lists three prices and three deadlines without pairing them. The Kiroro dates come from a secondary summary of the resort’s leaflet.
What if there is no snow?
Plan for a warm season. The Japan Meteorological Agency outlook issued in September leans warmer than normal for December to February. It gives a 50% chance of below-normal snowfall on Honshu’s Sea of Japan side (the reported wording is ambiguous) and 40% on Hokkaido’s. That is a forecast, not a result, but it makes refund terms worth reading this year.
The Hakuba Valley pass voids unused days with no refund; no snow-guarantee terms are confirmed at the other resorts.
Why do other guides show different prices?
Many still show last season’s numbers. These official 2026-27 prices differ from what older guides list:
- Furano is $58 (¥9,000), not $52 (¥8,000).
- Kiroro is $59 (¥9,200), not $57 (¥8,800).
- Rusutsu is $110 (¥16,700) at the window, far above older lists.
- Suginohara is $58 (¥9,000), up from $52 (¥8,000).
If a table does not name the season and year beside each price, treat it as stale.
What does a full Niseko day cost with rental?
One rental provider lists standard ski or board and boots at $61 (¥9,500) a day, a jacket and pants at $25 (¥3,800) each and a helmet at $21 (¥3,300). With a peak lift ticket at $87 (¥13,500), a day with full rental comes to $220 (¥33,900) before food and lessons. That is one shop’s price list, not an average.
Which pass fits your trip?
Match the pass to the trip:
- First trip or beginners, Hokkaido: Niseko day tickets, outside peak weeks if you can.
- Several resorts in one week: the Hakuba Valley pass, 5 days in a 10-day window.
- Budget Honshu trip with onsen: Nozawa at $50 (¥7,800), with 13 village baths that are free to use (a donation is asked, and a few admit villagers only).
- Already hold Epic: your free Hakuba days. Already hold Ikon: Niseko, Zao or Madarao.
Questions
Only slightly. Niseko's peak 7-day pass works out at about $84 (¥13,071) a day against $87 (¥13,500) for a single day, a 3% saving. Hakuba's 10-day pass is about 4% cheaper per day. Shiga Kogen and Hakuba stand out because days need not be consecutive.
Ikon covers Niseko United (7 days on the full pass, 5 on Base). Epic covers all 10 Hakuba Valley resorts with one free 5-consecutive-day ticket valid across all of them. Nozawa is on neither. Check the Ikon and Epic pages for blackouts before you buy.
Not on the Hakuba Valley pass, where unused days are void with no refund. No refund or snow-guarantee terms are confirmed at the other resorts, so read them before paying. The 2026-27 outlook leans warm.
Sometimes. Rusutsu lists $85 (¥13,200) online against $110 (¥16,700) at the window for a regular-season adult day, and Shiga Kogen has been reported at $55 (¥8,500) online against $61 (¥9,500). Online discounts at Niseko and Nozawa were not confirmed, so check each resort's official page.
Many pages still show last season's numbers. Furano was $52 (¥8,000) last season and is $58 (¥9,000) on the official 2026-27 page. Kiroro moved from $57 to $59 (¥8,800 to ¥9,200).
Some may be. Madarao's early-bird season pass was set to end 31 Oct 2026, Appi lists a last early-bird deadline of 30 Nov 2026 and Kiroro's runs to 13 Dec 2026, so check whether each is still on sale. Each resort's season-pass page has the live price.
